Salty Salzburg

Salzach

Salt from the surrounding salt mines gave the city and federal state of Salzburg their names. The river Salzach (salt river) was an important transportation route from the salt mines to the neighbouring countries. Due to the trade of the so-called “white gold” the Prince-Archbishops became very powerful and wealthy and especially under Wolf-Dietrich von Raitenau (1559 – 1617) and his successors various magnificent churches and palaces were erected, which still shape the old town of Salzburg. Convince yourself of this baroque beauty during an exciting guided city tour with me!
